Lanigan Nets Three as Eagles Cruise Past Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Three goals from Catherine Lanigan (Boonton, N.J./Parsippanny HS) sparked the Juniata College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory at Lebanon Valley, Wednesday evening at Arnold Field.

Lanigan led the way with her hat-trick while Katie Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) scored the other. Grace Alexander (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg), Meredith Shephard (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia), Lindsay Scholten (Apex, N.C./Brookfield) and Rebecca Waite (Landinberg, Pa./Avon Grove) had one assist apiece.

Lanigan tallied her first goal three and half minutes into the game, taking a pass from Scholten and shooting from the top of the circle. The ball caromed into the right side of the cage to give Juniata an early 1-0 lead. The Dutchmen tied things up in the 13th minute. Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) stop the initial shot, but the ball got past her to make it 1-1. The Eagles put four more shots on frame the rest of the half, but couldn't convert as the teams went into the half deadlocked at one.

Just under 30 seconds into the second half, G. Alexander came racing down the right side and played it over to K. Alexander, who scored from the left side to make it 2-1. Twenty minutes later, Lanigan struck again, firing home a rebound off a K. Alexander shot. Lanigan completed her hat-trick five minutes later, with both Waite and Shepard being credited with an assist on the play.

The Eagles held a commanding 16-4 edge in shots and held a 6-3 edge in penalty corners.
