Eagles Fall to Blue Jays 3-1 in Season Finale

THE STORY: Juniata played host to Elizabethtown in its regular season home finale on Saturday night at Knox Stadium. The Blue Jays scored two goals just under a minute apart in the second half to break a tie and defeat the Eagles 3-1.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?: The loss put the Eagles in a tie with Goucher for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Landmark. The Gophers defeated Drew 3-1 earlier in the day and by virtue of their 2-1 win over JC back on September 24, secure the fourth position.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blue Jays struck first at 22:39 of the first half on a goal by Olivia Beachley. Juniata was able to answer less than four minutes into the second half as Meredith Shephard (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) found Rachel Weigel (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) who deposited the ball into the back of the cage to even the score at 1-1. Addie Stang put Elizabethtown back on top on her unassisted score at 51:35. Charity Good collected a loose ball in front of the goal for the third score of the night less than a minute later.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Elizabethtown outshot Juniata 19-6 and led in penalty corners 15-6. Weigel had three of the Eagles' three shots with all of them coming on goal.

IN THE CAGE: Kyle Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) stopped 11 shots in the cage for the Eagles. Blue Jays starter Hannah Mack had three saves in the first half. Margo Donlin came in the second half and picked up one save.

TEAM RECORDS: Elizabethtown is 12-4 and finished with a 7-0 mark in conference play. Juniata finished 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Landmark

SENIOR FAREWELL: Saturday's game was the final one for six JC seniors. They are Brittani LaFollette (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point), Sarah More (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant), Elise Onjack (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area), Kristen Ostrzyzek (Hope NJ/Belvidere), Sarah Spencer (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial), and Weigel.
