TOWSON, Md.- Juniata field hockey opened Landmark conference play on Saturday on the road against Goucher. Despite a sizable lead in shots, the Eagles fell to the Gophers 2-1 in overtime.

The Eagles quickly grabbed the lead just 15 seconds into the first half. Juniata was fouled near the cage and was granted a penalty shot. Lindsay Scholten (Apex, N.C./Brookfield (Conn.)) converted the opportunity to give JC a 1-0 lead.

Scholten had another shot saved by Goucher goalkeeper Liz Zengel and another one go wide of the cage. Goucher was able to score the equalizer with less than seven minutes to play in the first frame.

Juniata dominated the second half 16-2 in shots and 9-1 in penalty corners. Goucher nearly pulled off the game winner at the end of regulation. The Gophers were granted a penalty corner and Emily Jewell took a shot at the goal but Eagle goalkeeper Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) was there to turn it away and the game went to an extra period.

Goucher had one shot go wide of the cage one minute into overtime. Seven seconds later, Maya Belin got one past Edwards and in to clinch the game.

Edwards stopped two shots in 71:07 of game time. Zengel had six saves.

The Eagles led 22-7 in total shots. Scholten led the team with eight and had five on goal. Penalty corners favored JC 13-7.

Juniata returns to play tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Delaware to play Wesley in non-conference action. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
