YORK, Pa.- For the third time so far this season, the Juniata field hockey team played an extra period. Unlike the prior two games, the Eagles' contest with York went to a shootout. Juniata came out on top as Rebecca Waite (Landenburg, Pa./Avon Grove) converted her stroke attempt to give the Eagles their first win of the season, 2-1 over the York.

Juniata took the lead in the first period just over nine minutes in. Lindsay Scholten (Apex, N.C./Brookfield (Conn.) crossed from the right side of the cage and deposited the ball past Spartan goalie Eve Hauptle and in for goal to put JC ahead 1-0 where the score stood at halftime.

York was able to tie it up in the 49th minute as Ali Posey assisted Lindsay Nye. The Spartans had good looks in the second half but goalie Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) came up with two saves and the Eagle defense blocked two shots.

The Spartans outshot the Eagles in both overtime periods by a combined 11-4 with Juniata not registering a shot in the second overtime. With a shootout needed to determine a winner, it wasn't until the eigth round that a victor was decided. Waite was able to finish her shot while falling down and get it past Hauplte and in to give Juniata the win.

York led in total shots 26-11. Penalty corners slightly favored the Spartans 9-8.

Edwards was outstanding in the cage as she had a season-high 13 saves that also tied her career-best. She finished with a .929 save percentage.

Juniata will look to keep its streak going as it travels to Washington and Jefferson on Tuesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
