EWING, N.J- The Juniata field hockey team faced The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. It was a close 1-0 battle at the half but the Lions added three goals in the second period to pull away for the 4-0 victory.
The Eagles were only able to get one shot off during the game. That game early at 5:49 of the first half on as Olivia Marker's (Huntington, Pa./Huntingdon Area) attempt was turned away by Lion goalkeeper Kelly Schlupp.
Starting Eagle goalkeeper Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) was able to come up with six saves in the first 18:30 of the first frame. TCNJ got one through in the 23rd minute to lead 1-0. Elise Onjack (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area) had back to back defensive saves to keep Juniata in the contest.
Santana Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) saw time in the second half in the cage. She came up with two big saves in a row but was unable to come up with a third as the Lions tacked on a second score. They would add goals in the 49th and 59th minutes, respectively.
Edwards finished with nine saves in the afternoon in 63:13 of game time. Mays had two stops.
Juniata returns to Knox Stadium this coming Wednesday when it hosts Messiah. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
