HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata field hockey hosted Drew in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Field at Knox Stadium. The Eagles scored five times in both halves as they defeated the Rangers 10-0.  JC has won three in a row to even its record at 4-4 while Drew falls to 1-7.

The 10 goals scored are the most by the Eagles since putting up nine at Frostburg in 2010. Seven different players scored for JC on the day.

"Our attack was going on all cylinders which is so exciting," said head coach Caroline Gillich afterwards. "This team proved today that they can be that offensive threat and this is what we are setting out to do. We are setting out to score."

The offense was led by Katie Alexander's (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) three goals. Sarah Bilheimer (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) added a pair of goals and four assists for a eight-point afternoon. Brittani LaFollette (Baltimore Md./Sparrows Point), Allison Groft (Hanover, Pa./South Western), and Cory Yerger (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) all had a goal and an assist. Melissa Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Cassie Clarence (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had Juniata's other goals.

"Today's performance was stepping it up to the next level," remarked Gillich. "When you hit conference play, the intensity has to increase and we had to set that. That's always a goal of ours to set the pace and I felt that today we really did that."

The Eagles allowed only one Drew shot all day and led 35-1 overall. Both Eagle goalkeepers Kylie Edwards (Danville, Pa./Danville) and Santana Mays (Parkton, Md./Hereford) saw time in the cage. Mays had one save.

Juniata returns to action next Friday, October 2 when they go on the road to play Scranton. Game time will be at 7 p.m. The Eagles then play Washington and Jefferson the next day, October 3, at 7 p.m. at Goodman Field at Knox Stadium on Homecoming Day.
