INDIANIAPOLIS, IN- Former Juniata field hockey player Tori Buser (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) has been nominated for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the Landmark Conference. Now in its 25th year, the Woman of the Year Award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Buser is one of 180 players from Division III and a record 480 spanning Divisions I, II, and III. This is the second straight year an Eagles field hockey player has been nominated after Emma Dahmus' nomination last year.
Buser graduated with a degree in Psychology in May and received Summa Cum Laude honors. She was given the John E. Blood Award at Juniata's Alfie Awards last month, which is bestowed upon the senior athlete who has earned at least four varsity letters and who has earned the highest GPA with significant athletic achievement.
Recently, Buser was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches National Academic Squad and named a Scholar of Distinction for having a GPA over 3.90. She is a three-time Landmark Honor Roll selection. On the field, she started 70 games in her four-year career and totaled 11 career defensive saves. Buser was a member of two Landmark Conference Tournament teams, one Landmark Championship team, one NCAA Tournament Team, and one ECAC Mid-Atlantic Semifinalist squad.
Conferences assess each nominee's eligibility and select up to two nominees. All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.
From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced, and the Top 30 honorees celebrated, at the annual award ceremony Oct. 18 in Indianapolis.
