Huntingdon, Pa., Katie Alexander (Mifflinburg, PA / Mifflinburg) scored the game-winning golden goal in double-overtime against Catholic on Saturday as the Juniata College field hockey team dethroned the reigning champion Catholic University, ending their three year title run. Alexander was named MVP of the game and has recently been named the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Week for her performance in the Championship game.

The freshman was left alone in front of the cage, as two Cardinal defenders left the zone to cover fellow forward Allison Groft (Hanover, PA / South Western). Groft dribbled the ball through the Catholic defense and charged towards the cage. The forward passed to the uncovered Alexander, who sent the ball into the open left side of the cage to end the game and crown a new champion.

Alexander has been a key cog on offense for the Eagles, finishing the season third on the team in goals scored. Watching the freshman play, it is hard to believe she is only a rookie. The forward plays and carries herself like an upperclassman. Alexander has been an exceptional presence on the field for the Eagles and will only continue to improve over the course of her career at Juniata.
