Juniata Field Hockey Picked Fifth in Landmark Preseason Poll

TOWSON, MD- The Landmark Conference released its 2014 preseason poll on Monday. The Juniata field hockey team was picked to finish fifth in the eight-team conference with a total of 30 points.

Defending champion Catholic was chosen to once again defend its title. The Cardinals received six first place votes on the way to earning 67 points and the top position. Elizabethtown finished second in the poll with 45 points and two first place votes while Drew University finished third with 37 points. The University of Scranton rounds out the top half of the poll with 36 points. Rounding out the list were Susquehanna (20), Moravian (13), and Goucher (8).

The 2013 season was a turnaround year for the Juniata field hockey team. After not making the Landmark Conference postseason for the first time the previous season, the Eagles rebounded by going 4-2 in league play and competing tough in the tournament semifinals where they fell to the Cardinals 1-0. Juniata (9-11) started the year 3-0 for the first time since 2006, outscoring opponents 9-3.  The momentum continued into conference play where the Eagles went 4-0 against Landmark opponents to open conference play, the best showing since going undefeated in 2010.

The 2014 season kicks off on August 29 when the team travels to Carlisle, PA to face Dickinson at 4 p.m. The home opener is slated for September 4th under the lights at Knox Stadium against Wilkes at 7 p.m.
