HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey received the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award, the organization announced Tuesday.  Juniata finished the fall with a 3.25 team grade point average (GPA).

"We have a culture of pushing to achieve at the level you know you can," said head coach Caroline Gillich.  "And at Juniata you are surrounded with other great people that want that for themselves and each other. It pushes the pace of learning and forces you to keep up in a very healthy way."

The NFHCA describes the award as acknowledging the institutions that achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA during the first semester of the academic year.  This is Juniata's ninth straight year receiving the award.  True student-athletes, the Eagles have maintained a cumulative team GPA over 3.0.

"Our team has consistently received this award because of their focus on being great student-athletes," added Gillich.  "They absolutely push themselves and each other to do their best on the field, and in the classroom, as do I.  I believe that the better you do in school, the happier you can be, and the better you will perform on the field."
