HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College field hockey team has won two straight games and will look to the comforts of home to continue the streak as they host four consecutive contests. It is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Week for the Eagles. They are hoping to educate and build awareness of the disease this week starting with their game against Washington & Jefferson (W&J) College on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. and ending with senior day this Saturday, Oct. 19 against Moravian College.  The Eagles are 7-7 overall, 3-0 Landmark, with just five games left in the regular season.

Juniata and W&J are meeting for the 12th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1988.  The Eagles lead the all-time series 10-1 and have outscored W&J 25-2 when at home in Huntingdon.  The President's only win over Juniata came on the road in 2008.  Since then, Juniata has defeated W&J three consecutive times by a two goal average.

The Eagles are picking up steam as they head into the final stretch of the 2013 season.  Juniata is currently tied for first place in the Landmark Conference with a perfect 3-0 record.  The Eagles defense has put together back-to-back shutouts to spark the turnaround.

Tandem goalkeepers Shelby Miller (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Julianne Jones (Middleburg, Pa./Midd-West) have combined for over 90 saves this season. Miller currently ranks nationally in goals against average and save percentage, while Jones is top five in the league with a team-best 46 saves.

Juniata's back line will have to ward off a President offense that averages over 17 shots per game with a .678 shot on goal percentage.  W&J's attack is being led by Catherine Beaudoin and Catherine Villa, respectively.  The pair have a team-high six goals each including two game winners under their belts. Beaudoin leads the team in points (15), but Villa has been the most deadly within the circle with 15 of her 19 total shots ending on goal.

In the cage for the Presidents, Morgan Brozena has been a steady force. She has had 37 saves this season and boasts a 1.45 goals against average. W&J has proven to be a strong second half offensive team this year. They have outshot opponents 119-41 and earned nearly double the corners in the second half alone.
