HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata field hockey battled to the end with Alvernia University Tuesday afternoon but fell 1-0 at home after a late goal by the Crusaders in the second half. Juniata dropped to 6-9 on the season while Alvernia improved to 8-8 with the win.
Senior Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished with a game-high eight saves after a full 70 minutes on the field.
Alvernia scored over halfway through the second half. Brittany Barcus caught a rebound off a defenders stick in front of the goal and flicked it past Howard.
Juniata will continue its final home stand this Saturday, Oct. 20 against Drew. Game time is set for 1 p.m. The two teams have been competing since 1999. Juniata leads the all-time series 5-3.
