Juniata’s Bowman named Capital One Academic All-American

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College senior Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America women's at large team as part of the Juniata field hockey team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), released Tuesday. 

Bowman, the 21st Academic All-American in Juniata history, was a First Team selection to the Division III team of 15 student-athletes.

Additionally, Bowman is only the seventh Juniata student-athlete to gain First team honors and the first field hockey player on a CoSIDA Academic All-America team. 

Bowman, finished her career with 15 goals, eight assists for 38 points. In her senior season she tallied six goals and two assists, including game winning goals against Stevens (9/4) and Susquehanna (10/5). 

A 2010-11 CoSIDA Women's At-Large Second Team Academic All-District selection, Bowman also received Juniata's John E. Blood Award for the highest senior student-athlete GPA coupled with athletic achievement. 

Off the field, Bowman, is a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection, she interned at NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center in Summer 2011 and conducted genetics research at Juniata during her senior year. Bowman will be attending Johns Hopkins University as part of a Biology PhD program beginning in Fall 2012.

"I couldn't be prouder of Caitlyn and her accomplishments, there is just no one else I can think of who deserves this more than her. The dedication and enthusiasm she brought to her athletic and educational programs over her four years at Juniata is simply unmatched. I can't wait to see the great things to come from her in her graduate level research," said Juniata head field hockey coach Caroline Gillich.
