Field hockey could not capitalize in 2-0 loss to Drew

MADISON, N.J. – Despite holding a 19-4 shot advantage over Drew University, Juniata College field hockey could not find the back of the cage and dropped a 2-0 decision at Ranger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) posted a team-high five shots at Ranger goalie Christina Carlini. Sophomore midfielder Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) also put-up four shots, while senior Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) charted three for Juniata (9-4, 3-2 Landmark).

Senior Ranger Mary Esposito got her third mark this season and the game winner, assisted by freshman Erin Maguire in the 17th minute directly following a Drew (10-7, 4-1 Landmark) penalty corner.

Freshman Angela Terracciano tipped in a security goal for Drew in the 67th minute when sophomore Brooke Gagliano found her in front of the Juniata goal face.

Junior goalie Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) played 69:29 for Juniata and allowed both goals while saving just as many. Freshman Shelby Miller (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished the game protecting the Eagles net and did not face any opponent shots.

The Eagles certainly put Carlini to the test Saturday afternoon, but Carlini was able to hang on to the shutout with ten saves.

Juniata travels to fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 23 for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
