Field hockey unable to get past Messiah College in non-conference matchup

LORETTO, Pa. -- No. 17 Juniata College field hockey came up empty in a 2-0 loss against No. 1 ranked Messiah College at DeGol Field on the campus of Saint Francis University Friday evening.

Despite Juniata's (3-2) seven fired shots and nine penalty corner opportunities, the Eagles were unable to capitalize in the contest. Both senior defender Molly Snyder (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) and sophomore midfielder Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) recorded a pair of shots. Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord), Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) and Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) all charted one shot apiece.

In the ninth minute, Messiah (3-1) forward Brooke Sands took the first shot by either team in the match and it found the back of the cage. The goal resulted from a penalty corner taken by junior forward Juliana Hershey. Later in the half in the 24th minute, senior forward Kourtney Ehly gathered a loose ball in the scoring circle and notched a goal unassisted.

Juniata senior goalie Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) played 65:35 in the match and made three saves against the Falcons and allowed both goals.

The Eagles turn around and travel to Delaware Valley College for a 1:00 p.m. game tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 17.
