Saxons Rush Past Eagles

Saxons Rush Past Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata football team suffered a 34-0 loss to the visiting Alfred Saxons, Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.

The Saxons elected to receive, and on the fourth play from scrimmage, their running back broke through the hole and outran everyone to score the opening points of the game. A penalty on the Eagles during the extra point meant the Saxons kicked off from the 50, and they took advantage of that to bop an onside kick that caromed off an Eagle. The Saxons recovered the ball at the Juniata 41, and six carries later were in the endzone again to make it 14-0.

The teams traded punts for a bit, before Alfred punched in a third rushing touchdown in the final minute and thirty seconds of the first quarter as they led by three scores after one.

The only score of the second quarter was a Saxton rushing touchdown after they started in Eagle territory following an interception.

The Saxons scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter on a 43-yard touchdown pass to complete the scoring.

The Eagle defense forced a stop later in the third, with Ian Brunner sacking the Alfred quarterback on third and eight to force them into a longer field goal they would miss on the next play.

To open the fourth quarter, the Saxons were threatening again in the redzone. On fourth and one, Michael Grapin stopped the running back in his tracks for a loss to force the turnover on downs.

Ethan Shank led the defense in tackles with 12, while Dontey Rogan and Brunner each had a sack apiece. Dawson Booher had two pass breakups, while Brunner also blocked an extra point.

Juniata will host Hartwick, next Saturday at 1:00 PM.
