Wolverines Ground Eagles in Season Opener

GROVE CITY, Pa.- The Juniata football team opened the season on the road with a 63-6 loss at Grove City Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field.

The Eagles started with the ball at their own 35 but went three and out.

The Wolverines took over from their 22 after a 43-yard Wyatt Buell punt that was returned nine yards. The Eagle defense kept the ball in front of them and held firm until the Wolverines completed a 56-yard pass for a touchdown.

The hosts stopped the Eagles again, this time taking over at their own 30. They went 70-yard son 12 plays as their wide receiver Scott Fraser hauled in his second touchdown of the day.

The Wolverines scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter, with the second in the final minute of the half as the Eagles went into their locker room down 28-0 at the half.

Hunter Wolfley provided a bright spot late in the third quarter. Juniata started at the 35, and on the first play from scrimmage, Wolfley broke through and took the ball 65 yards to the endzone.

The Wolverines scored 35 points in the second half to complete the scoring.

Three Eagles had eight total tackles in the game: Jake Matchock, Nigel Robertson, Seth Bernstein, Quintin Stephens and Trey Lauver. Lauver led the teams in tackles for loss while Matchock added a forced fumble.

Juniata will return to Knox stadium next weekend to begin their final season of Centennial Conference play against the Green Terror of McDaniel College.
