Red Devils Bedevil Eagles

Football's Ian Border
Ian Border ran for 71 yards while adding three receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown.

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Dickinson scored 24 unanswered points between the second and third quarters as the Juniata Eagles fell, 47-14, to the visiting Red Devils on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

JC started with the ball, and Tim Graham started with a 13-yard competition to Ian Border (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area H.S.) and a four yard one to Shaheed Ross (Philadelphia, Pa. / Delaware Valley Charter HS). A three-yard run from Clay Spencer (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin H.S.) and a three-yard completion to Border gave Juniata their second first down. Two plays later Aj Brocato (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mills HS) hauled in pass for another first before Jeremiah Bingham (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford High School) caught a pass for an 8-yard gain. The drive ended two plays later on a fumble as Dickinson recovered and took over at their own 37. The Red Devils wasted little time as they used the hurry-up to good effect as they went 52 yards on eight plays before they ran it in to go up 7-0.

Starting at their own 33, JC again began to drive. On third and two, Border found daylight down the left side line as he went 36 yards to Red Devil 23. Another seven-yard run from Border paired with an eight-yard reception by Sean Owens (Schwenksville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley HS) put JC at the 12. Two plays later, on third and goal, Graham rolled right and found Border in the flat and he beat everyone to the pylon to score to tie the game up.

Dickinson looked to responded as they moved the ball down into the redzone, but the defense held as Scott Cooper broke up a pass on third down to force a field goal. The Red Devil kicked booted the ball wide right as the scored remained 7-7. Juniata couldn't find any rhythm on offense and Brenden Gardner (Muncy, Pa. / Hughesville Area HS) punted the ball to the Red Devil 30.

Dickinson was more methodical on this drive but no less efficient as they needed 16 plays and over five minutes to drive down the field and score to go up 14-7 . Juniata's next drive resulted in a punt, but a bobbled ball resulted in a major loss and gave Dickinson great field position at the Eagle 10. On third and goal Dickinson found their way into the end zone again as they went up 21-7.

Another Eagle turnover gave the Red Devils great field position at the JC five, but the defense held. Jamel Foster (York, Pa. / Red Lion Area Senior H.S.) knifed into the backfield to make a tackle for a two-yard loss before Dan Drop Jr. (Hatfield, Pa. / North Penn HS) broke up a pass to force a field goal. Dickinson converted to make it 24-7.

The final four and half minutes of the half involved some near scores by both teams. Juniata blocked a punt and ran it back for six, but the play was called back for a penalty. Later, it appeared the Red Devils had scored via a pick-six but that also was brought back for a penalty. Right before the half ended, Joshua Singleton (Philadelphia, Pa. / Olney HS West) forced a fumble that was recovered by Zeb Fowler (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS).

The Red Devils opened up the second half by going 65 yards on four plays as they pushed their lead to 24, 31-7.

Jakob Amsler (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West HS) provided the final points for the Eagles as on the next Dickinson drive, he intercepted a ball in the flat and ran it back 36 yards for six.

Dickinson added to their lead with a 16-point fourth as they went on to win 47-14.

Juniata will face Johns Hopkins for Senior Day November 3rd. Kickoff is at 1:00
