Mules Gallop Past Eagles

Juniata Football's Shaheed Ross
Shaheed Ross caught a touchdown for the third straight game.

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-  The Juniata football team had a tough day at Muhlenberg as they lost, 62-7, Saturday afternoon at Scotty Wood Stadium.

The Eagles started with the ball, and Tim Graham (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) found AJ Brocato (Abingdon, Md./Patterson Mills HS) for a first down. Brenden Gardner (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville Area HS) punted the ball to the Muhlenberg 45 after JC couldn't convert 4thand nine.

The Mules took the ball 55 yards in a little under three and a half minutes to take a 7-0 lead. The Eagles went three and out and Muhlenberg took over at their own 41.

On first and 10 on the Juniata 18, Jamel Foster (York, Pa./Red Lion Area Senior H.S.) forced a fumble, the first of his career, that Zeb Fowler (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area HS) managed to recover. On the ensuing drive the Eagles couldn't manage to gain any traction, and had to punt. The Mules fumbled the ball and Kaleb Weyant (East Freedom Pa./Central) managed to recover the ball at the Eagle 31.

Graham hit Daulton Snyder (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) for eight yards, Shaheed Ross (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter HS) for 29 and Ben Lauver (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata H.S.) for 11 to get the ball to the Muhlenberg 28. Graham's next pass was intercepted in the end zone but a personal foul by the Mules wiped out the play. Three plays later on third and goal from the Muhlenberg three, Graham found Ross in the end zone for six to tie the score at 7-7.

The Mules scored touchdowns on their next three drives to go ahead 28-7. That was the margin the Eagles trailed at halftime.

Muhlenberg went 61 yards on the opening drive of the third to make it 35-7. The Eagle defense managed to force stops on the next three Muhlenberg drives, which included an interception by Joel Reighard (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area HS). The Mules did get on the board via a pick-six, which made it 42-7 after three.

Muhlenberg added three more touchdowns in the fourth to complete the scoring.

The Eagles will host McDaniel on homcoming, Saturday at 1:00.
