Eagles Unable to Keep Up With Cardinals' Offense

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Juniata baseball team lost the first game of their three-game series at Catholic on Saturday, falling 11-7.

The offenses were relatively quiet to start, with Catholic putting up just one run in the bottom of the second. Juniata would respond in the top of the fourth with three runs to put themselves into the lead. Singles from Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg), Joey Woodrow (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland), and Corey Daniels (Vandling, Pa. / Forest City Regional) along with a throwing error from Catholic helped bring the runs home to score, with Joey Allegrini (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) picking up an RBI on a groundout before the inning ended.

Juniata's lead was shortlived, as Catholic added five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, making the score 6-3 in their favor. The teams would trade runs in the fifth and sixth innings before Catholic scored two in the bottom of the seventh. With the score now 9-4 in favor of the Cardinals, Juniata put together another three-run inning in the top of the eighth. That would be the last of their scoring, and Catholic added two in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 11-7.

Starter Chase Alessandroni (Royersford, Pa. / Springford) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up six runs on only four hits while walking three batters and striking out two.

The series will conclude in DC tomorrow, with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 AM.
