Baseball Bedeviled by Red Devils

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision in non-conference action against Dickinson College on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon at Langdon Goodale Stadium.

The Red Devils pushed two runs across in the first inning as they capitalized on an Eagle error with their two hits which included an RBI-double to left-center.

In the bottom half of the inning, Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County) smashed a double to left-center to left and got to third on a wild pitch. He came home on a Joey Woodrow (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland) sac fly to left.

In the bottom of the second, with one out, Roberto Barranca (York, Pa. / Calvert Hall (Md.) was hit by a pitch, got to second on a wild pitch before back-to-back balks by the pitcher pushed him across to bring JC within one.

In the bottom of the third, Maclay drew a two-out walk. Woodrow singled to left, with Maclay getting to third and Woodrow advancing to second on the throw. Michael Warren (New Berlin, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) drew a walk to load the bases, and Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) followed with a walk to tie the game at 3-3.

The teams exchanged zeros in the fourth before the Red Devils put together a three-run fifth with two hits and an Eagle error. The visitors tacked on another two runs in the seventh to complete the scoring.

The Eagles threatened to win or extend the game in the ninth, with Jr Harrison (Windsor Mill, Md. / Dulaney) drawing a one-out walk and Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) placing a single in shallow right field. But Juniata couldn't capitalize as Dickinson got a strikeout and threw Harrison out trying to steal third to end things.

The baseball team is back at it tomorrow as they travel to Gettysburg with the first pitch at 3:30.
