Eagles Cruise Past Penn State-Mont Alto

Ryan McClain went 4-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and four runs scored at Penn State Mont Alto.

MONT ALTO, Pa.-The Juniata baseball team grabbed their 10th win of the season as they won on the road at Penn State Mont Alto, 14-8, Tuesday afternoon. 

Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) plated the first run of the game as his single allowed Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) to score from third. The Lions managed to score twice in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1 early. 

In the second, Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) singled through the left side and then stole second. Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown Senior High School) singled to left to plate McClain and knot things at two. Carper was hit by a pitch, Gery got to third on a passed ball before Carper stole second. Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central High School) smacked a double into left to score both runners. Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) reached safely on an error while Corle ran home to put the Eagles up, 5-2, after two. 

In the third, McClain singled through the left side with one out and Sam Craig (Mullicahill, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) lined a double to left center. A passed balled allowed both runners to advance as McClain scored. Craig scored on Gery's sac fly to center, Carper walked and Corle drove him in with another double to left center as the Eagles extended their lead to 8-2.  

Craig's two-run double to left in the fourth inning pushed the lead to 10-2. 

In the sixth, McClain's sac fly to right scored Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage). 

Tyler Seiffert (York, Pa. / West York) left the mound after going 6.0 innings while allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four to get the win for Juniata.  

The Lions scored two runs in the eighth on back to back RBI-singles to right then center field.  

The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the ninth as Gery's single scored McClain and two batters later Coby Rogers (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) drove in William Chickillo (North Abington Twp., Pa. / Abington Heights) with a single to center while Gery went home on an error by the centerfielder. Penn State Mont Alto tallied four runs in the bottom half of the inning to complete the scoring, 14-8.  

The Eagles will play at Susquehanna, this Friday at 4:00.
