CARLISLE, Pa.-The Juniata baseball team used a season-high 16 hits to blow by Dickinson, 12-2, Wednesday afternoon at MacPhail Field.
After reaching on a single to center, Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) was pushed to second on a sacrifice bunt by Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central High School) and scored three batters later on an error by the third baseman. The Eagles led 1-0 at the end of the first.
The Red Devils took the lead in the bottom of the second, tying the game as a runner scored from third on a ground out to short and took the lead on an RBI-double to left center.
Jack Johnson (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) prevented the Red Devils from doing further damage in the third. With the bases loaded and two outs he managed to get the better to ground out to second to end the inning.
JC tied things in the fourth when Joshua Gery's (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown Senior High School) sac fly to right allowed Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) to score. The Eagles retook the lead in the fifth when Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) scored from third on an error by the shortstop.
Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) led off the top of the sixth for the Eagles with a single to left. Sam Craig (Mullicahill, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) followed with another single to left and Gery reached on an error to load the bases. Two batters later Corle singled to right to score Craig and McClain. Kipp lined a single to right which plated Gery and Jake Swank's (Portage, Pa. / Portage) flyout to right scored Corle as the Eagles pushed their lead to 7-2.
Austin Suders (Marion, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) entered in the eighth and kept the Red Devils off the scoreboard in the final two innings. Juniata added three in the eighth and another two in the ninth as they cruised to a 12-2 victory.
Johnson went 7.0 innings and allowed seven hits, two runs while striking out two to get his second win of the season.
The Eagles will host Catholic this weekend in conference play. First pitch Saturday is at 12:30.
