CRESSON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team dropped a pair of games at Mount Aloysius, 12-10 and 6-0, Tuesday afternoon at Smith Calandra Field.
Game one saw the Eagles strike first in the top half of the first via Isaac Maclay's (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) sac fly to center which scored Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area).
The Mounties responded emphatically, scoring three runs in the first to retake the lead and adding another four in the second to go up 7-1.
Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottstown Senior High School) led off the third with a single to third and Carper followed with a single to left. Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central High School) advanced both runners with a sac bunt and both runners advanced again on a passed ball as Gery crossed home plate. Another Maclay sac fly to center allowed Carper to score to make it 7-3.
Mount Aloysius had another big inning in the bottom half of the fourth as they scored another four runs to go up, 11-3.
Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) reached on an error by the left fielder and scored via a double by Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville). Colton Kubicki (York, Pa. / West York) and Gery hit back to back singles before a Corle single to left allowed Kubicki to score from second. The Eagles trailed 11-5 after four.
The Eagles scored five runs, an RBI apiece from Corle and Kubicki and another three on errors by the hosts to pull within two, 12-10 by the end of the fifth.
But the Eagles couldn't pull even as the dropped game one, 12-10.
Game two was a struggle offensively for the Eagles as they only managed three hits.
Mount Aloysius struck in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI- single to right center. The Eagles had their best chance in the top of the second.
Price reached on a two-out single to left and McClain followed with a single to left of his own. Kubicki was hit by a pitch to load the bases but the following batter grounded out to short to end the threat.
The Mounties added two in the third and another two in the fourth to get to 6-0.
The Eagles get right back at it tomorrow at Dickinson, first pitch is at 3:30.
