Eagles Split with Wilson College

Ryan McClain went 2-6 with a double and two RBI on the day at Wilson.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Juniata College baseball team split with Wilson College Wednesday afternoon, capturing the first game, 6-3, and dropping the second, 2-10.

The Eagles pushed one across in the first off an Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) single to center field, sending Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) home. Wilson responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to knot things up. The Phoenix sent two more runs across the plate in the third to take the lead, 1-3.

With bases loaded, Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central High School) walked to put the Eagles within one. Kipp singled, sending in two RBI for a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth.

In the sixth inning, Carper singled to left field and advanced to second after Corle was hit by a pitch. Another hit from Kipp send Carper home, widening JC's lead to 5-3.

Juniata scored once more in the seventh, Matt Innella (Commack, NY / Commack) finding himself in scoring position after being walked and stealing second. Colton Kubicki (York, Pa. / West York) reached on an error, and Innella crossed the plate.

The Eagles held the Phoenix in the bottom of the inning, solidifying the 6-3 win.

In game two, Wilson put a run on the board to start off the game in the first inning. Juniata responded with two runs of their own in the fourth after a big Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) double to right field knocked Jake Swank (Portage, Pa. / Portage) and Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) home.

Juniata's lead was short lived as the Phoenix kept coming, scoring nine and running away with a 10-2 win.

Juniata returns home for a double header on Saturday, March 30, to take on conference foe Drew University at 12:30pm.
