Baseball Bested by Blue Jays

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team fell, 11-7, in their final game of the three-part conference series against Elizabethtown on a chilly Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Jays were first to score, putting up a run in the second inning. The Eagles were quick to respond, tying it up 1-1 in the bottom of the third after an Austin Suders (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) fly knocked in a walked Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic).

Both teams were aggressive at the plate in the fifth, E-town scoring three off two hits and two walks. The Eagles came out swinging in the bottom of the inning to steal the lead, 6-4. Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County High School) started the inning with a single to left field, advancing on an error by the second baseman. Suders flied out to the outfield to send Maclay home, and Josh Keszczyk reached on a fielder's choice to put another run on the board. A Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) fly and Hippensteel's single drove in two more runs to complete the inning.

The Eagles lost momentum in the sixth and seventh innings, giving up another six runs. JC tried to make a comeback in the eighth after Maclay homered to start off the inning, but ultimately dropped the game 11-7.

Juniata travels to Gettysburg on Tuesday for their last game of the season.
