WASHINGTON, DC-  The Juniata baseball team lost a pair of tough games at Catholic, 5-4 and 6-5, Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) led off with a single to center. With two outs, he stole second and Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Austin Suders's (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) single to the shortstop gave JC an early 1-0 lead.

A solo homer to right brought the Cardinals even in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) singled to up the middle with one out. Kipp smacked a ball to the same spot before a double by Maclay sent Schreder home. Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y./Commack) lined a single a left to put JC up 3-1. The Cardinals responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score. The teams put zeros from the fourth to the 11th inning. Gavin Grimaldi (Clymer, Pa./Penns Manor) tossed 7.0 innings with two strikeouts before Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) took the next 2.0 innings.

In the top of the 11th, with two outs Schreder doubled to right and Tyler Seiffert (York, Pa./West York) ripped a double of his own down the left field line to send Schreder home.  Catholic used a two-run double down the left field line to win the game.

Game two opened with Juniata again striking first. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) led off with a walk and two batters later Schreder drove him in with a double to right center.

Hippensteel drove in a run with a field single in the second which plated Joshua Gery (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown Senior HS). The Cardinals got one back in the bottom half of the inning. A Maclay shot to left made it 3-1 through three innings.

In the top of the fifth, Maclay reached safely with two outs on an infield single. Kipp's double to right center allowed Maclay to score and Innella's single to left sent Kipp home.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to make it 5-4. The Cardinals again completed their comeback with a two-run double to take game two, 7-6.

The teams will meet for the completion of the three game series, tomorrow at 12:00.
