Eagles Drop Landmark Conference Doubleheader to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team fell to Moravian, 15-8 and 7-2, in a doubleheader to round out the conference series Saturday afternoon at Gillespie Field.

Moravian put up two in the first, but the Eagles rebounded with a run in the top of the second. Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) walked and was able to reach home on Zane Morgan's (Bigler, Pa./Clearfield Area High School) double to center. The Greyhounds closed the inning by putting another five on the board.

The Greyhounds held an 11-1 advantage through the fifth until the Eagles' came alive in the box in the top of the sixth, earning five runs to narrow the deficit to 11-6. Chris Schreder (Litiz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) walked and scored after Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County High School) singled and Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) ripped a double to right center. Morgan singled up the middle to send Maclay home, and Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) hit into a fielder's choice to put another run on the board. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) singled to third for a RBI and Dillon Hippensteel's (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) fielder's choice sealed another run for the Eagles.

Moravian countered JC's big inning with four of their own. The Eagles battled in the seventh, scoring another two off singles from Livingston and Morgan, but ultimately dropped the game, 15-8.

The Eagles came out swinging in the first inning of game two, Schreder singling up the middle and taking home after a wild pitch and a drop fly by the shortstop. The Greyhounds scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings and had a big five run inning in the sixth to take the lead 7-1.

JC scored again in the top of the seventh, Kipp tripling to right center and scoring off Maclay's sacrifice fly to center. The team was able to hold Moravian the remainder of the game, but could not gain momentum at the plate, falling 7-2.

Juiata travels to Gettysburg on Monday for a 3:30 matchup.
