Dickinson Bedevils Juniata in Wild 12-10 Thriller

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team lost a wild game to Dickinson, 12-10, on cold and windy day at Langdon-Goodale Field Sunday afternoon.

Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y./Commack) went 2-3 with two RBI, two walks and three runs scored. Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa./Mifflin County High School) went 2-5 with homer and two runs scored. Josh Keszczyk (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) went 1-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk. Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) went 2-4 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Neither team struck in the first inning as Dickinson left a runner on while JC left two.

The Red Devils put up two runs in the second via a double to center. JC responded in the bottom half of the inning. With one out Innella single to center and stole second. Keszczyk hit a double down the right field line and got to third on the throw. Price walked to put runners on the corners. Keszczyk scored on a passed ball and Dillon Hippensteel (Dillsburg, Pa./York Catholic) singled to center to give JC a 3-2 lead.

Dickinson put up six runs in third including a grand-slam as they opening an 8-3 lead. In the bottom half of the third, Schreder struck out but reached when the catcher dropped the third strike and the first baseman stepped off the bag trying to catch the throw. Schrader stole second and Austin Suders (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) reached via an error by the third baseman. Both runners advanced on a ground out and Innella singled to right to drive in both runners. Keszczyk walked before Price singled through the right side to pull JC within two at 8-6.

Following a scoreless fourth, each team scored once in the fifth inning but both teams could have done more as Dickinson left two runners on and JC left the bases load.

In the top of the sixth the Red Devils got a with a walk, sac bunt and a ground out to short, but Mark Cyterski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) induced a groundout to third to escape without damage.

In the bottom half of the inning, with runners at second and third Zach Tobash (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) entered as a pinch-hitter and lined a single to center to tie the game at 9-9.  

The Red Devils scored three in the seventh to retake the lead. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the ninth.

Facing their final three outs, Innella walked and Tyler Seiffert's (York, Pa./West York) pinch hit single through the left side brought the tying run to the plate. Following a strikeout, both runners advanced on wild pitch. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) grounded out to short, where he was just narrowly called out on a bang bang play at first, plated Innella for the final run of the game. 

The Eagles will host D'Youville, Saturday with first pitch at 12:00.
