Royals Edge Out Eagles in Doubleheader

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Eagles dropped two one-run games to the Royals in the first of their three-game series.

In game one, Scranton scored their only six runs in the second inning off of four hits and two errors.

Juniata rebounded in the third. Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) walked and was advanced to third off of Chris Schreder's (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) double. Devin McLaughlin (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) and Austin Suders (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) came up big for the Eagles with back-to-back homeruns, putting four runs total on the board.

Neither team scored again until the Eagles put one up in the sixth. Shane Buss (Warrenton, Va./Highland) singled to left center to start off the inning and advanced to second on a balk. Livingston singled and advanced to second on a fielding error by the left fielder, scoring Buss.

The Eagles were unable to get another run home, dropping the game 6-5.

Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) went all seven innings, striking out five, walking one, and giving up seven hits.

Juniata fell 7-6 in the second game. Scranton scored one off of a homerun in the second inning and did not score again until the team went on a spree in the sixth, putting up six more runs.

The Eagles got on the board in the fifth inning. Gavin Grimaldi (Clymer, Pa./Penns Manor) and Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) both singled to start off the inning. J.D. Weyant (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) came in to pinch run for Grimaldi and scored off of Carper's fielder's choice. Schreder singled to advance both Carper and Price, and Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) walked to move Price home. McLaughlin reached first on a fielder's choice, ultimately scoring Carper off of the third baseman's error.

Juniata scored three more in the sixth. Kevin Starner (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) singled to start off the inning and stole second. Carper was then hit by a pitch, and Schreder singled to score Starner. Livingston came to the plate and doubled, sending in both Schreder and Carper.

The Eagles were again unable to come back in the seventh, falling 7-6.

Schreder finished his season with 50 hits and a batting average of .360.
