Juniata Baseball Falls to Susquehanna in Doubleheader

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Eagles dropped both games to the Susquehanna River Hawks 4-1.

Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) came out swinging in the top of the first with a triple to center field. Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) walked and Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) singled off a bunt to send Carper home for the Eagles first and only run of the game.

In the bottom half of the first, Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) gave up two hits and let in two runs. River Hawk Cole Luzins hit a home run in the third to put Susquehanna up 3-1. Harshbarger ended his day giving up five hits, four walks, and four runs. He struck out six.

Livingston singled in the fourth, but was left on base. The River Hawks scored another in the sixth, and the Eagles were unable to back a comeback in the seventh.

In game two, Susquehanna started off the bottom half of the first with a homerun. Juniata Eagle Gavin Grimaldi (Clymer, Pa./Penns Manor) singled in the third followed by a pair of singles from Carper and Schreder, but the team was unable to get a run home.

The River Hawks scored three runs in the fourth off of three hits and a walk. The Eagles' only run came in the fifth. Austin Suders (Marion Pa./Chambersburg Area) and Carper both walked, Suders reaching home after a double from Schreder.

Susquehanna went hitless for the rest of the game. In the sixth, the Eagles tried to rally with hits by Livingston and Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), but the team fell short—the end score being 4-1.

The Eagles return home on Saturday, April 22, for their conference series against Catholic. Game one has a 1:00 PM start time.
