River Hawks Edge Out Eagles 3-2

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Eagles fought a tight battle against Susquehanna in conference play today, dropping the first game of the weekend series 3-2.

The first three innings went by scoreless for both teams in a duel of the pitchers. It was not until the bottom of the fourth did the River Hawks put runs on the board, scoring two off of two hits and an error.

Starting on the mound for Juniata was Shane Buss (Warrenton, Va./Highland). Buss struck out four, walked one and gave up two hits and two runs. He was relieved by J.D. Weyant (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) in the fifth. Weyant also struck out two and allowed for two hits.

Juniata held their opponent until the ninth, putting up a run of their own in the seventh off of Devin McLaughlin's (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) home run down the left field line. The Eagles scored another in the eighth after Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) doubled to left center to start off the inning. Kevin Starner (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) advanced Price to third off his sacrifice bunt, and Isaac Kline singled to send him home, tying up the game 2-2.
Unfortunately, the Eagles could not hold the River Hawks in the ninth and the home team was able to get in a run off two hits and a walk. Ichiro Narita (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Latin School) took the loss after going in to pitch in the ninth.

Juniata takes the field again tomorrow at Susquehanna at noon and 2 PM for their final two games against the River Hawks.
