Eagles Drop Two to Mt. Aloysius in Tight Battle

Eagles Drop Two to Mt. Aloysius in Tight Battle

CRESSON, Pa. – The Eagles dropped both of their games against Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, the first 7-4 and the second 13-12. The team is now 5-22 overall.

In game one, Mt. Aloysius scored a run in the bottom of the first by way of a homerun. The Eagles answered back in the third scoring a run of their own after Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) started off the inning with a double, ultimately crossing the plate after being advanced by Isaac Kline's (Everett, Pa./Bedford) single and Devyn Carper's (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) groundout to third.

Juniata got ahead in the fourth. Cameron Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) had a single and Devin McLaughlin (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) doubled to send him home. The Eagles scored again in the top of the sixth. Livingston was hit by a pitch to get him on first, and he proceeded to steal second to put himself in scoring position. McLaughlin doubled to send in another run for the team, putting the Eagles up 3-1.

Mt. Aloysius' bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs off of five hits. Juniata rallied, scoring a run in the seventh but fell short.

McLaughlin went 2-for-3 in the game. Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern), McLaughlin, and Price all had doubles. Carper had a triple.

Pitcher Jesse Beeler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle Antrim) gave up six hits, walked two and struck out four.

Game two went nine innings in a close battle between the two teams. In the top of the first, McLaughlin reached on an error by the right fielder, advancing him to third, and he ultimately scored on a pass ball. Mt. Aloysius fired back with one run off of two hits in the bottom of the inning, only to have the Eagles score two in the second.

Matt Innella (Commack, NY/Commack) walked to start off the inning and was advanced by Livingston's single. Kline reached on an error, advancing the two runners to second and third and Andrew Hay singled, sending in two RBIs.

Mt. Aloysius scored two of their own in the third, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Juniata got back on the board in the seventh. Hay walked and advanced to second on a pass ball, and Carper singled to send him around for a RBI. Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) stepped up to the plate hitting a double to send Carper home for the second run of the inning. Innella singled toward the end of the inning to put up another RBI.

The game then went into extra innings.  In the eighth, the Eagles scored four runs off of two hits and one error. Mt. Aloysius put up another four on the board in a back and forth battle. Carper tripled in the ninth to send home another run, but the team could not hold Mt. Aloysius in the bottom of the inning, giving up two runs in the ninth off of three hits and an error.

Carper is now at 35 hits this season with Schreder just behind at 34.

The Eagles return to conference play on Friday at Susquehanna. Friday's game will start at 3 with Saturday's games being held at 12 and 2.
