Eagles Fall to Gettysburg

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata started off the game strong with a 3-2 lead in the first but was unable to recover after the Bullets pulled ahead at the top of the third. The loss puts JC's record at 5-14.

The Eagles' bats were alive in the first inning with sophomore Devyn Carper (Altoona, PA/Altoona Area) leading off with a single to left field. Chris Schreder (Litiz, PA/Lancaster Catholic) followed up with a single of his own while both Matt Innella (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and Hunter Price (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon Area) doubled to center field, bringing in two runs. Kevin Starner (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) knocked in Innella for the third run of the inning.

Gettysburg bounced back in the third, scoring four runs. Junior J.D. Weyant (New Paris, PA/Chestnut Ridge) came in to relieve Josiah Lynn (Beggs, OK/Classical Conversations Homeschool) midway through the inning and remained on the mound through the sixth, striking out three. The Bullets continued their drive through the top of the ninth, putting up 15 total runs.

Juniata scored once in the ninth when junior Josh Keszczyk (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown Area) hit a single to bring in Andrew Hay (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) in the team's attempt to rally but lost by the score of 15-4.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, April 1, for a double header against Moravian. Game 1 is scheduled for a 1:00 start time with the second game following at 3:00.
