Strong Pitching Not Enough for JC Baseball at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa.- Juniata pitching kept the Eagles in their games with Dickinson but the offense could not back it up as the Eagles dropped a doubleheader to Dickinson on Saturday afternoon. The losses put JC's record at 5-13.

 

The Eagles fell 2-0 in the first game. Devin McLaughlin (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) took the loss as he went six innings and gave up two runs on 11 hits. He struck out four Red Devils. Austin Suders (Marion, Pa./Chambersburg Area) pitched two innings in relief and only allowed one hit.

 

Chris Schreder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) was 2-for-4 at the plate. Schreder tripled in the first inning with one out but back-to-back groundouts prevented him from scoring.

 

In the second game, the Eagles trailed 1-0 after the third inning. In the sixth inning, Schreder singled with one out and moved to second base and then third on wild pitches. With runners at the corners, Matt Innella (Commack, NY/Commack) singled through the left side to score Schreder and tie the game at 1-1.

 

Dickinson moved ahead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and added another pair in the seventh. Juniata scored once in the ninth in its attempt to rally but lost by the score of 5-2.

 

Drew Harshbarger (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) took the loss. He went 5.1 inning with three runs scord on three hits. He allowed four walks and struck out two batters. Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) lasted 1.2 innings and surrendered two runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out one. Shane Buss (Warrenton, Va./Highland) had an inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout.

 

Juniata hosts Gettysburg for a single game on Wednesday. First pitch at Langdon-Goodale Field is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
