Bridgewater Offense Pulls Away in Seventh Inning to Defeat JC 13-2

Bridgewater Offense Pulls Away in Seventh Inning to Defeat JC 13-2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – A late rally from the Juniata baseball team was stopped short Sunday when the Bridgewater offense opened up with six runs in the seventh inning to help take the team to victory 13-2. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed.

Bridgewater put up three runs in the first inning to get ahead of Juniata early.

With the rain coming down, JC found a spark in the fourth. Nick Stubbs (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) opened up the inning with a single out to right. Joe Klusman (Wilmington, Del. / St. Elizabeth) followed with a single out to right. Chris Schreder (Litiz, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) hit a sacrifice bunt to set Juniata up with two runners in scoring position. Bridgewater would pick up one more out before the weather delayed the game.

When the game resumed, Brady Cotler (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Salesianum) was at the plate. Cotler would fill the count but ultimately popped out to left, ending the inning.

Bridgewater picked up a run in the bottom half of the fourth and another in the fifth to go up 5-0 on Juniata.

JC took advantage of a pair of Bridgewater errors to get their offense going in the seventh. Chris Sinisi (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) reached first on a throwing error and then would score on a throwing error that allowed Isaac Kline (Everett, Pa. / Bedford) to get on base.

Kline advanced to third on a Devyn Carper (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) single. Stubbs approached the plate with two outs and runners at the corners. Stubbs singled to short to bring in Kline and make it 5-2. Bridgewater got the final out to end the JC rally.

Bridgewater's offense opened up in the bottom half of the inning with two outs and bases loaded. They recorded six runs in the seventh and then added two more in the bottom of the eighth.

Hunter Price (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) started on the mound for the Eagles. Price tossed 4.2 innings, struck out four batters and allowed five runs on six hits.

JC returns to action Sun. Feb. 28 in a doubleheader against Pitt.-Bradford at 1:00 p.m.
