Juniata Names Adam Sheibley Head Baseball Coach

Juniata Names Adam Sheibley Head Baseball Coach

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- Juniata Athletic Director Greg Curley announced today that Adam Sheibley has been hired as the new Eagles head baseball coach. This is Sheibley’s first head coaching position.

“After an extensive national search, Adam emerged from a very competitive field as the right person to lead our baseball program moving forward,” stated Curley. “His background as a successful student-athlete, his preparation as an assistant coach in two outstanding programs, and the vision he has for our program made him the clear choice.”

Sheibley comes to Juniata from Shippensburg University where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past three seasons. During his time there, the Raiders were 86-35 and advanced to the 2013 NCAA Atlantic Regional and Division II World Series. He was a hitting, base running, and fielding instructor for the infield and outfield.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity and I can’t wait to meet all the guys on the team and get started,” said Sheibley. “I would like to thank Greg for the opportunity, the search committee, my current boss at Shippensburg Matt Jones and my previous boss and head coach at Elizabethtown Cliff Smith for everything they have done to help me out along the way.”

“Juniata got the right guy,” said Jones. “He is a really smart baseball guy and the program is going to have a lot of success. I had the benefit of being his coach first and then hiring him as an assistant. It’s been great to see his development from a player, then leader, and now to coach. He’s done a great job and will continue to do a great job.”

Prior to his time at Shippensburg, Sheibley was an assistant coach for Elizabethtown for two years.  While there, the Blue Jays won 39 games and qualified for the Commonwealth Tournament in both seasons.

“Adam worked really hard to get a head coaching job,” stated Smith. “He has helped out our program tremendously. He was extremely talented as a player at E-town and is someone who has gone through a similar experience as the players at Juniata in that he was a student-athlete too.”

As a player for the Blue Jays, Sheibley (2006-09) finished his career as Elizabethtown’s career leader in runs scored (162), triples (23), stolen bases (95), games played (158) and at-bats (568). He also ranks second in Elizabethtown’s record books for career RBIs (115) and hits (178). Sheibley led the country in stolen bases (51) and stolen bases per game (1.16) during his senior season in 2009. He was a three-time Middle Atlantic Conference All-Conference Team honoree and was both a Rookie (2006) and Player of the Year (2009).

“There is no question that we are getting one of the rising stars in coaching and the right person to build upon our baseball program’s rich history of success,” said Curley.
