Eagles Baseball Loses Conference Game to Moravian

Eagles Baseball Loses Conference Game to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Juniata baseball team (7-21, 2-16 Landmark) was defeated by Moravian College (15-15, 11-7 Landmark) 5-18 Sunday afternoon.

The Hounds got off to a quick start against the Eagles and were up 6-0 after two innings of play.

Juniata got on the board in the top of the third. After being walked, Joe Klusman (Wilmington, DE / St. Elizabeth High School) advanced to second on a passed ball. Klusman stole third and Chris Sinisi (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) was walked. Tyler Morris (Ellicott City, MD / Centennial) came to the plate with runners at the corners. Morris grounded out to second and allowed Klusman to score.

The Eagles defense held strong in the bottom of the third and kept Moravian without a run by turning a double play.

In the fourth, Klusman hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Anthony Lombardo (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area). Sinisi was next to the plate and hit a RBI-single to left. Brady Cotler (Chadds Ford, PA / Salesianum) scored on the play.

Juniata was down 3-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Moravian added on one run in the fifth before pulling away with five runs in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Morris hit a leadoff single to left. Jacob Terry (Denver, PA / Cocalico HS) hit a bunt-single and the Eagles had two runners on board. Later in the inning, Cotler hit a 2-RBI-single to left that brought in Terry and Morris.

The Hounds would add on six more runs in the bottom of the seventh and take the game from the Eagles 18-5.

Caleb Pepperday (Phillipsburg, PA / Phillipsburg-Osceola HS) was the starting pitcher for Juniata. Pepperday pitched 4.2 innings, gave up six hits, seven runs (six earned), walked eight batters and struck out one.

Juniata plays a doubleheader Monday, April 20 at Penn State Mont Alto with first pitch at 2:00pm.
