Baseball Struggles to Find Offense against Hounds

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Juniata baseball team (7-20, 2-15 Landmark) was swept by Moravian (14-15, 10-7 Landmark) in a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Gillespie Field.

The Eagles fought to find a groove against Moravian's Dan Morrin in game one. It wasn't until the fifth inning that Juniata would get a hit against Morrin. Moravian took the game 16-0.

Eric Grace (Hopewell, PA / Northern Bedford) started for the Eagles against Moravian.  Grace pitched 3.1 innings, struck out one batter, gave up 17 hits and 14 earned runs. Chris Sinisi (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) pitched relief and finished with one strikeout, three hits, two earned runs and one walked batter.

Juniata was able to get on the board in game two but they were outscored by Moravian and lost 3-15.

Jacob Terry (Denver, PA / Cocalico HS) led Juniata in game two and went 3-for-4 at the plate. Terry hit a lead-off single in the first, a bunt-single in the third and a single to left in the sixth. Terry also stole second base in the sixth, ultimately setting up Anthony Lombardo (Altoona, PA / Altoona Area) to hit a sacrifice-fly.

A few batters later in the sixth, Brady Cotler (Chadds Ford, PA / Salesianum) grounded out to second, which allowed Chris Schreder (Litiz, PA / Lancaster Catholic) to score.

Juniata was down 2-15 heading into the seventh.

The Eagles would cross home plate just one more time, when Joe Klusman (Wilmington, DE / St. Elizabeth) scored on a fielder's choice that left Moravian with just one more out left to get.

Jesse Beeler (Greencastle, PA / Greencastle-Atrim) started game two for Juniata. Beeler finished with 15 hits, 15 earned runs, two walked batters and four strikeouts. Ichiro Narita (Brooklyn, NY / Brooklyn Latin School) came in for relief in the sixth and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Juniata returns to Gillespie Field Sunday, April 19 for a 12:00pm game against the Hounds.
