GREENSBURG, Pa. – On the final day of the 2014 season the Juniata College baseball team suffered from a late-inning rally by the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg to fall 5-3 in a rain shortened game. The Eagles finished the season 9-31 overall.

Senior Ryan Morrison (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon Catholic) threw 4.1 innings giving up five runs on six hits while striking out two. Senior Mario DeYulis (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) threw two thirds of an inning in relief getting out both batters he faced including one by strikeout. Greensburg scored first with one run in the bottom of the second and the Eagles threatened back with a runner on third in the top of the third, but were unable to score. Juniata took the lead in the top of the fifth thanks to a two-out rally.

Senior Joe Sforza (Pittstown, N.J. / Immaculata) ripped a double to centerfield to put himself in scoring position for senior Dan Gray (Johnstown, Pa. / Richland). Gray delivered with his first homerun of the year for the 2-1 Eagle lead. Sforza finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

Greensburg responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homerun of its own and another two runs for the 5-2 lead. Senior Brad Medellin (Lewisberry, Pa. / Red Land) notched a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to score sophomore Sheridan Doan (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney High School) to pull within two, but the rally ended there and the heavy rain halted the game early.
