Juniata Falls in Rubber Match With Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the final game of the three-game Landmark Conference series, the Juniata College baseball team fell to Catholic University of America 10-4. Senior Brad Medellin (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) and junior Cody Krepps (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) finished the game 2-for-3 with one run batted in and senior Joe Sforza (Pittstown, N.J./Immaculatta) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

 

The Eagles opened scoring in the top of the third when they plated three runs for the early lead. Freshman Jamie Fell (Frazier, Pa. / Frazier) scored the first run of the day on a sacrifice bunt by senior Derek Heath (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon). Medellin followed up with an RBI double to score junior Nick Stubbs (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) from third. One out later, Krepps singled home Medellin for the third run of the inning.

 

The Cardinals scored one run in bottom of the fifth and tied the game with two in the bottom of the sixth. Catholic took the lead with five runs an inning later. In the top of the eighth inning, Juniata was able to get one run back when Sforza notched a two-out homerun. The Cardinals tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth closing out the scoring for the 10-4 win.

 

Junior Chris Fulton (West Chester, Pa / Unionville High School) took the loss for the Eagles tossing 6.1 innings giving up six runs from 10 hits while striking out three. Juniata returns home for a doubleheader on Langdon-Goodale Field Wednesday April 9 against Mount Aloysius College beginning at 1 p.m.
