HUNTINGDON, Pa. – On a cold and windy day on Langdon-Goodale Field, the Juniata College baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Gettysburg College, 6-2. Sophomore catcher Anthony Lombardo (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) finished 4-for-2 with one run batted in on the day. Freshman pitcher Eric Grace (Hopewell, Pa./Northern Bedford) threw six complete innings in the loss giving up five runs on nine hits.

The Bullets jumped on the board first with four in the top of the first inning and one in the top of the second. Grace settled in after the first two innings and only gave up three hits in the next four complete frames.

The Eagles were able to score in the top of the fourth on a deep single to left center field from Lombardo to bring senior third baseman Joe Sforza (Pittstown, Pa./Immaculata) around to score from second. Gettysburg added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to put Juniata in a 6-1 hole heading into the final three outs.

The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame to chase the Gettysburg starter off the mound. Freshman Brady Cotler (Chadds Ford, Pa./Salesianum) scored on a wild pitch and senior Brad Medellin (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) walked to load the bases again and bring the tying run to the plate.

Sophomore shortstop Chris Sinisi (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) beat out an infield single to third base to score sophomore leftfielder Sheridan Doan (Timonium, Md./Dulaney High School) and bring the Eagles within three. But the Bullets relief pitcher was able to force a flout and seal the 6-3 win for Gettysburg.

Juniata falls to 3-12 on the year and will take to the road for a three-game Landmark Conference series against The University of Scranton. The Eagles will return home Friday and Saturday, March 29-30, to host Moravian College in a Landmark series. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
