Juniata Athletics Participates in Walk to School Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- On Thursday, members of Juniata’s athletic teams participated in Walk to School Day. The event was sponsored by the Juniata Valley Sustainability Club, Juniata Valley Student Council and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital with support from the Pennsylvania State Police and Alexandria and Petersburg Fire Companies.

The two-mile walk was to encourage daily exercise, encourage environmentally sustainable practices, and encourage participation in healthy community activities. Members of the football, women’s basketball, baseball, men’s volleyball, and softball teams were represented. Juniata’s mascot Alfie along with the State College Spikes mascot Ike, the Altoona Curve mascot Loco, and the Juniata cheerleaders were also in attendance.

“The participation of Juniata College's athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, mascot and staff in JVSD's fourth Walk to School Day event gave a big boost of energy to our efforts,” said JVSC advisor Pam Grugan.  “By walking with us to school today they have demonstrated the conviction that safe routes to school would indeed offer opportunities for young people to keep physically fit, spend more time outdoors and use fewer of our natural resources.  We appreciate the support the college lends to this event and the college students' willingness to serve as role models for our JV students.”
