70 Student-Athletes Receive Degrees at Juniata Commencement

HUNTINGDON, PA – With each of their respective athletic careers officially over, Juniata College senior student-athletes had their sights on one more milestone, graduation. There were 70 student-athletes who participated in the 137th Annual Commencement on Saturday, May 16 to receive their degrees. 

 

As the president of the class of 2015, women’s volleyball’s Christine Sumner (Dublin, OH/Bishop Watterson) provided the remarks during the program.  She encouraged graduates to “take the famous Juniata community with them and to give back.” Sumner also told her fellow classmates to “remember the amazing memories and embrace the uniqueness.”

 

Several student-athletes received high honors.  Field hockey’s Tori Buser (Allentown, PA/Parkland) graduated Summa Cum Laude and received honors from the Psychology department. 

 

Three athletes graduated Magna Cum Laude; Katie Schroeder (Kempton, PA/Kutztown)- Softball, Heather Waring (San Antonio, TX/John Jay) – Women’s Tennis, and Ethan Wilt (Altoona, PA/Altoona Area)- Football. Three athletes graduated with Cum Laude honors: Charlotte Caddick (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) Women’s Tennis, Patrick McEvoy (Avon, NY/Avon Central) - Men’s Soccer, and Kortney Showers (Aspers, PA/Biglerville) – Field Hockey.

 

Football’s Ward Udinski (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) and Men’s Tennis’ Kyle Salage (Blakeslee, PA/Pocono Mountain West) received honors from two different departments; Udinski from Mathematics and Accounting, Business, and Economics, and Salage from International Studies and Politics 

 

There were 31 departmental honors distributed to student-athletes as well as six diplomas of distinction, two Juniata College Honor Society selections, and four inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Society.
