Woods and Alter lead cross country teams at Bison Open

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Juniata College men’s and women’s cross country teams earned four top 15 finishes at the Bucknell University Bison Open on Friday, led by a second place finish by junior Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) and a seventh place by junior Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice).

Woods crossed the finish line in the three-mile run at an even 18 minutes, 25 seconds faster than Ashley West from Susquehanna University who placed third and just 14 seconds behind Victoria Davis from Bloomsburg.

“Woods didn’t start off well in her first mile, but she really picked it up throughout the rest of the race, but then she started to relax and find her pace,” said head coach Jon Cutright. “Everyone ran well, it was a good start, but everyone is certainly looking to improve on their times.”

Alter, just one second shy of sixth place, finished his three miles in 15:39, which was 30 seconds slower than the top male runner of the day but only 15 seconds off of the no. 2 finisher.

Ryan Trexler (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) earned a top 15 finish, crossing the line 12th in the men’s race with a time of 15:51. Senior Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) was the only other Juniata runner to earn top-15 bragging rights with a time of 19:12 and a 14th place finish.

Juniata’s Trevor Stephens (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Nick Trapane (Thumont, Md./Catoctin) took 26th and 27th with times of 16:32 and 16:33, respectively, while Haley Schneider (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) earned 29th place in the women’s three-mile race with a 20:20 time.

Juniata races again on Saturday, September 8, at the Lebanon Valley Invitational before hosting the Juniata Invitational on Saturday, September 15.
