HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Five-time All-American Nathan Smith was named the new head women’s swimming coach at Juniata College, the organization announced Tuesday. Smith takes over a program that finished 10-5 in dual meets last year before posting its best post-season finish in the past four years.
“We are very excited to have Nathan Smith lead our swim program,” said Juniata Athletic Director Greg Curley. “His background as a highly successful student-athlete and his experiences in two of the nation’s top DIII swim programs will serve him well as he looks to continue the growth and improvement of our swim team.”
Smith grabs the reigns after working as an assistant coach at DePauw University. During his one year with the program, the Tigers set 14 school records and earned 17 Honorable Mention All-American awards.
Not taking a break after graduating from Kenyon College (’11), Smith spent time with the Brentwood Barracudas out of Nashville, Tenn. as an assistant coach working with 9-15 year old intermediate swimmers.
His exceptional work ethic was evident inside the pool and in the classroom. Not only was Smith a member of three NCAA Division III National Championship teams, he was also a three-time Academic All-American and earned the Dean’s List numerous times throughout his collegiate career.
