Oller Track closes May 14 for synthetic turf project

Oller Track closes May 14 for synthetic turf project

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College will break ground on May 14 to begin the synthetic turf installation project at Knox Stadium, headed by Shaw/Sports Construction Group, therefore closing public access to Oller Track until the project’s completion.

The target completion date for the playing surface and reopening of Oller Track is August 27.

Shaw/Sports Construction Group (SCG) was chosen to install a Shaw/Sportexe Powerblade SZ 2.25 product with a sand and rubber infill system. This type of synthetic turf allows for year-round usage, while fitting the varying needs of both the field hockey and football programs.

The Cleveland Browns’ indoor practice facility, Penn State University Field Hockey Complex, Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins are just some of the premiere synthetic turf systems installed by SCG.

Upon completion of the project, the playing surface will be named after the late David K. Goodman ’74, a former Juniata trustee.

Juniata opens its 2012 football season on September 1 at Thiel College, with the home opener slated for Saturday, Sept. 8, against Dickinson College.

The Eagle field hockey squad will begin its 2012 season on August 31 at the Stevens Institute of Technology Tournament in Hoboken, N.J., with the team’s debut on the new synthetic turf scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 5, against Elizabethtown College.
