Juniata Athletics finishes fall fifth in Landmark Presidents’ All-Sports Cup standings

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College Athletics completed the Fall seasons ranked fifth in the 2011-12 Landmark Conference Presidents’ All-Sports Cup standings, which were released Thursday.

Catholic University of America leads the Presidents’ Cup standings with 6.917 points, while University of Scranton was second with 6.167 points. Third in the race was Susquehanna University with 6.083 points, while Moravian College outdistanced Juniata to finish fourth with 5.333 points.

Listed alphabetically, Drew University, Goucher College, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy all trailed Juniata in the Presidents’ Cup standings.

Juniata tallied 4.917 points during its fall seasons. Among the Eagles' fall teams, women’s volleyball was the lone squad to earn a Landmark Conference championship. Juniata field hockey qualified for the Landmark tournament, while men’s cross country finished in the top half of the field at the Landmark Cross Country Championships with a fourth place finish.

The Landmark Presidents’ All-Sports Cup is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for their finishes in the regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The formula was modified slightly this season to account for differences in sports sponsorship, which could lead to larger changes to the standings as the year progresses than in previous years.

With the fall season now complete, the eight Landmark institutions have already begun competition in the winter season. The teams will compete in men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s indoor track and field during the winter months.
